Everyone’s pregnancy journey is different, and your maternity session should be, too. Set yourself up for a great session, with these easy maternity session tips.
- Pick a vibe. Are you into something natural, or something more urban? Maybe you want to include your family pets in your session, so you’d like to go more of a lifestyle photography route. There are many options available to customize your maternity session to fit your style.
- Give yourself plenty of time to plan your outfits. Try them on in advance, and consider having your partner or friend snap a few photos just to see how you feel in the outfit. You want to be able to move comfortably, and still show off that glorious belly (covered or uncovered, that’s your choice!).
- Remember the accessories. Fun accessories can really take your outfit to the next level, and add visual interest to your photos. If you choose to wear heels, pack a pair of flats for easier walking between locations. In winter, colorful scarves and hats keep you cozy, while adding color and texture.
- Who do you want to include in your maternity session? Family maternity sessions are a great way to celebrate your family as it is now, before the newest member arrives. Some people elect to include animals, or even future grandparents as well.
- Don’t forget to get as much rest as you can (I know, it’s easier said than done), and be well fed and hydrated before your session. You want to relax and have a great time, and it’s hard to do that when you’re tired or thirsty. Bring a quick and easy snack, incase you feel yourself tiring during your session.
- Customize your session with things that matter to you. Do you have a favorite sports team? Consider wearing a team jersey! Do you and your partner have unique hobbies or interests? Bring along some of the things that make you, YOU, and truly make your maternity session personal.
