As a photographer, I often fall victim to the adage ‘the cobblers children have no shoes’. Or, I take photos, and it takes me two years to edit them, because clients take priority, and then they get lost in the shuffle of being a mom. So, I very belatedly present to you, our 2022 spring break road trip! We took another tour of the Southwest, visiting many new locations, and revisiting a couple of past locations as well. For our first official stop, we finally got to Palo Duro Canyon in West Texas! It is the second largest canyon in the United States, next to only the Grand Canyon. The small town of Canyon, TX, was also a fun stop, with an old fashioned ice cream parlor, independent bookstore, and more. Definitely worth a stop.

We always enjoy stopping at smaller National Monuments, and our first stop in New Mexico, was the Capulin Volcano. The walk was deceptively further than it appeared, so we kept it simple, but still enjoyed the views. This is a quick and easy stop that has some stunning vistas.

We cut across the corner of New Mexico, and headed up into Colorado. I always love finding quirky and unique historical sites when we travel, and we made the trek out to Bent’s Old Fort, a beautifully done recreation in the original location. We got there right at the end of the day, so we pretty much had the entire place to ourselves. Z has a sixth sense for finding cats no matter where we go, and this was no different. I think the cat was just as smitten as she was.
